South Dakota Insurance Industry Outreach

We are asking for your participation in an exciting new project that will help the children of South Dakota receive more of the child support to which they are entitled. In cooperation with other states, South Dakota is making their delinquent child support obligor information available to insurance companies. This information will be available on a secure Internet website that will allow you easy access when processing insurance claims.

The web site was designed, developed and tested in cooperation with an advisory committee of Rhode Island Insurance companies and representatives of other insurance companies across the nation. A pilot test of the web site has shown that there is money available from insurance claims that should go to children. This website will have information about child support delinquent obligors from across the nation.

The enclosed material provides contact information and explains how your company can use this website to assist us in ensuring that child support is paid. South Dakota Codified Law Chapter 25-7A allows the state of South Dakota to issue an income withholding order against the settlement if an obligor owes child support. This website, which can be accessed at www.childsupportliens.com, contains information about those obligors and will facilitate your company’s ability to contact our agency. If past due child support is due, we will send you an Order for Withholding of Income requesting that you withhold the funds up to the amount of past due support. We request that you do not distribute the funds until you receive notification from our agency.

I am confident that you will find this web-enabled application to be fast, easy to use and a good fit with your company’s existing business strategy for technology. Your participation will help us ensure that financial support is a reality in many young lives. On behalf of all the children that will benefit from this program – thank you for your efforts.

Sincerely,

Terry Walter
